Attila Vidnyánszky is officially a member of the International Committee of the Theatre Olympics

On 19 April 2023, the International Committee of the Theatre Olympics, in the presence of President Theodoros Terzopulos, Co-Founder, Tadashi Suzuki and Committee Member Valery Fokin officially elected Attila Vidnyánszky, Director of the National Theatre of Hungary, as a member of the Committee.

Attila Vidnyánszky is a theatre and opera director, teacher and festival organiser. Originally from Transcarpathia, now part of Ukraine, he founded his company there, which has been invited to prestigious festivals from Nancy to Turou and Moscow, including the Moscow and St. Petersburg Theatre Olympics.

Since 2013 he has been Director of the National Theatre of Hungary in Budapest, and is the founder of MITEM (Madách International Theatre Meeting). He has taught in Kiev and Kaposvár and currently teaches theatre directing at the Budapest University of Theatre and Film Arts. He has received numerous Hungarian and international theatre awards, including the Mejerhold Prize in 2009.

One of the highlights of the 10th Theatre Olympics was the Madách Project 2023, a program based on the idea of Attila Vidnyánszky, organised by the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest. Student director George Zamfir wrote to színház.org about his experience of creating the performance.

Attila, one of Verdi’s early opera scores that focus on heroic figures in history, was presented in the Margit Island Theatre on August 12, the second operatic treat, presented at the Eiffel Art Studios on August 22, was Karol Szymanowsky’s King Roger. This opera was one of hundreds of events included in the 2023 Theatre Olympics.
