Synopsis

This comic epic parodies the favourite genre of Hungarian romanticism, the epic. In his work, Petőfi Sándor ridicules not only the Classicist ideals, overdone pathos, elevated style and all the other characteristic epic literary devices of an epic, but also the romantic, „Sunday” interpretation of poetry, no less solemn than the first. As to why he wrote this comic epic in 1844, there are more theories. The pleasant days spent at Dunavecse might have had a good influence on the poet. He started writing in August 1844, and was finished with the poem by 10 September.

Lilliput Company Oradea’s extraordinary literature class helps teenagers make the first steps towards enjoying literature. It is different to hear the text and see the plot unfold than to get through compulsory reading in school. We bring Petőfi’s masterpiece to life using theatrical devices that are close to highschoolers, and are, at the same time, similar to elements of traditional fairground theatre.

The Director

Bartal Kiss Rita is a puppeteer, in the most noble sense. She directs, designs, plays, creates fairy tale words with her hands. Her complexity and talent make her a welcome guest artist in any of Hungary’s puppet theatres, but she is a very frequent collaborator beyond the country’s borders as well.

Two of her shows as a director have been selected to participate at the 10th edition of the Theatre Olympics (Helység kalapácsa – Lilliput CompanyOradea; Bennem a létra – exam performance of Târgu Mureș Arts University).

Besides her Blattner Géza Award, she has been awarded a great number of prizes and distinctions. Most recently, she won Best Children’s Theatre Director at the ASSITEJ Festival in Kaposvár for the show entitled Volt egyszer egy… by ARIEL Puppet Theatre Târgu Mureș. Bartal Kiss Rita is currently the artistic director of Griff Puppet Theatre în Zalaegerszeg.
