How would you spend your time if forced to repeat the same period over and over again?

The musical tells the story of Phil Connors, an arrogant, sarcastic and self-centered Pittsburgh TV weatherman who, during an assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself in a time loop, repeating the same day again and again. When he wakes up on February 3rd, there’s a big problem on his hands--it isn’t February 3rd, but February 2nd, the same day he just lived. In a bizarre twist of fate, Phil is forced to relive the same day over and over again. Based on the 1993 Harold Ramis film classic, a beloved comedy, set to a hilarious and heartfelt score by Tim Minchin, Groundhog Day is an uproarious tale of a man who finds himself with all the time (he never wanted) in the world; it is a touching story about the journey of self-discovery, day after day...

The Director
Horváth Illés

I was born in Budapest in 1984. I received my first degree in acting after graduating from one of the first classes of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Kaposvár, under the guidance of the legendary László Babarczy, in 2006. I have spent ten years on stage as a company member of various theatres in Budapest and in the country-side; in 2016 I decided to give up my acting career for directing. From 2019 onwards I am the full-time artistic director of the Móricz Zsigmond Theatre, managing its professional art-life. Besides that I also work as a freelance director all over Hungary. In 2021, I co-directed a feature film financed by the National Film Institute, which was selected for the competition programme of the Fantasporto International Film Festival, where it won an award. Although visuals and music always play a key role in my directing work, still the most important thing for me is to explore the human soul and feelings in a sincere way. I do believe in art's ability to change the world for the better, and I never start any work with less of an aim than that.
