Synopsis

SEEDLING is an audio installation by Northampton artist Helen Crevel focused on potential motherhood, environmental responsibility and consumerism. It seeks to provoke a conversation around motherhood and the environment, connecting them to our geographical and cultural heritage, and family legacies.
As you listen in on the thoughts of a young woman, you are invited to take time to stop and reflect; to consider the changes you would like to see in the world, and to ask yourself 'How do we live with hope?'.

The development of the piece included conversations with pairs of mothers and daughters about their exchanges surrounding the decision to have children or not. These conversations will address bringing a child into the world in its current state and what changes we see happening in the future.

Visitors will enter a space that bears reference to a domestic space and is connected to the audio with interactive elements.

Helen Crevel created SEEDLING with support from a team of women committed to sustainability, among them renowned collaborator Anne Langford. The two of them will hold two workshops connected to the project in Budapest.

Helen is a talented performer whose experience is as diverse as her background. Born in France to an Anglo-French father and a Chinese-Malaysian mother, she has grown up in the UK with a unique perspective on both cultures.

She has been performing since the age of three, eventually going on to study acting at the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Since graduating, her work on stage and screen has taken her all over the world – doing everything from international theatre tours to making independent film to commercial television.
