The story takes place in the timeless times, when the characters (Fahéjka, Szotyikotyi, Zengzúmarci, Izmoskázmér) are looking for a homeland, because they don't belong anywhere, so they wander, until suddenly the king falls in love with them and welcomes them into his kingdom. The reason for this is that the king has been sad and sorrowful for many years, unable to laugh.
The small wandering group also gets the news of this, so they decide to find the king to make him laugh, since they have done nothing else on their long journey than entertain the people with their dancing, singing, and unbridled good humor. The spectators and the children are also involved in this. Together we achieve the impossible: the king can laugh again!
While they are looking for a homeland for themselves, they have to go through countless instructive pitfalls. In the meantime, they constantly cheer people up during their migration with their songs.
The writer tells the beautiful story of the gypsies' migration with a childlike, honest and pure soul, which is touching, humorous and instructive.
