Karagöz Folk Dance was founded in 1988 as a folk dance repertory based company in Bursa, one of the leading cities in the history of Turkish traditional culture. The ensemble's repertoire includes traditional dances from almost all regions of Turkey as well as professional stage performances based on ethnic dances. Their performance, presented as part of the Theatre Olympics, offers an insight into the world of traditional Turkish dances.
They focuses on the dramatic dances of the Bursa-Tekirdağ-Mardin region and a special Turkish "potpourri" dance of 7 regional dances in their play. The programme will feature the Török Tilla Folk Experience band, led by Junior Prima Award-winning multi-instrumentalist folk singer and songwriter Tilla Török, whose art is inspired by the folk music of the Hungarian and Steppe peoples, and whose concerts are made even more exciting by the variety of folk instruments and unique instrumentation.
Török Tilla Folk Experience band will be heading to Turkey again this June for a tour of her latest album of Hungarian and Turkish folk songs, "Tek Yürek - One Heart". A special feature of the concert programme at the TÁNCszínTÉR Festival is the unique sound of the songs on the album, which is enhanced by the contribution of a Turkish guest artist, Alican Polat.
